Technical Conferences on Bananas in the Canary Islands

Dr. María Mercedes Hernández González participated last Thursday, July 5 in the Technical Conference on Bananas in the Canary Islands, the main crop of the islands with more than 3,000 hectares dedicated to this fruit. Dr. María Mercedes highlighted the importance of the nutritional status of the soil in improving its productivity.

The aim of this conference is to present to technicians and farmers of the island sector the latest trends and novelties regarding fundamental issues such as fertilization, plant health, irrigation and new marketing trends, with the help of the main institutions and specialists at regional level related to bananas.

The Soil Fertility and Plant Nutrition Research Group of IPNA has extensive experience in the study of soil fertility and mineral nutrition of numerous crops, including not only bananas but also other products of commercial interest such as avocado, strawberry, potato or papaya, as well as the effects of salinity on soils of various crops, and the potential for heavy metal contamination of soils.
